Origin
The American Bobtail is a remarkably muscular cat radiating strength, designed by nature to survive in harsh conditions. More intelligent than average and very loyal to its owners, the short tail is its most striking feature. Tufts in and on the ears are desirable. Available in both shorthair and longhair versions, its hard waterproof coat protects against extreme weather. Despite its wild appearance, it has a remarkably gentle character.

Body: medium length, very solid and rectangular. Full and broad chest, strong hindquarters slightly higher than the strong shoulders. Hips almost as wide as the chest, muscular and athletic appearance.

Head: broad, rounded wedge. Slightly domed forehead, broad rounded muzzle with a slight rise below the eyes.

Eyes: large, almond-shaped, slightly slanted. All colours accepted.

Ears: medium-sized, well spaced, slightly rounded at the tips.

Tail: short, 3–10 cm, straight or slightly curved.

Coat: short or semi-long, slightly rough to the touch, with abundant undercoat.

Colour: all colours and patterns accepted.
