Origin
The Bengal originated in the United States around 1950 from crossings between wild Asian leopard cats and domestic cats. Jean Mill received the title of founder of the Bengal breed. Geneticists and dedicated breeders transformed these crossings into a recognised breed.

Character
The Bengal is an active, athletic and intelligent cat close to its wild instincts while being affectionate. It loves to play and climb and needs a lot of stimulation.

Care
The short coat requires little maintenance. Weekly brushing suffices.

Body: large, muscular and athletic. Solid bone structure, medium-length legs.

Head: wedge-shaped, slightly longer than wide. Small in proportion to the body.

Eyes: large and oval to round.

Ears: fairly small, slightly forward-tilted, wide at the base.

Tail: medium length, firm to the touch, rounded tip.

Coat: short, thick and luxurious. Spotted or marbled pattern.

Colour: brown spotted or marbled, with or without silver. Also snow Bengal.
