Origin
Around 1960, an American Burmese breeder created a black version of the breed using black American Shorthairs. The breed was named Bombay after the Indian city and the black panther of India.

Character
The Bombay is an affectionate, sociable and intelligent cat, very attached to its owners. Playful and active, it gets on well with children and other animals.

Care
The short, shiny coat requires very little maintenance. Regular polishing with a chamois maintains the lustrous sheen.

Body: medium-sized, muscular and well proportioned.

Head: rounded, broad face, strong chin.

Eyes: large and round, gold to copper colour.

Ears: medium-sized, wide at the base, slightly tilted forward.

Coat: short, very shiny, silky, lying close to the body.

Colour: jet black only, throughout the body down to the roots. Paw pads and nose leather are also black.
