Origin
The British Longhair (Lowlander, Brittanica) has its origin in the British Shorthair. Since Persians have regularly been crossed with Brits, the appearance of the longhaired version was inevitable. Much effort was needed to have this breed recognised as a distinct breed in its own right.

Character
The British Longhair has the same calm and stable character as the British Shorthair. Affectionate, gentle and not very active, it is perfectly suited to apartment living.

Care
The semi-long coat requires regular maintenance. Brushing two to three times a week prevents tangles and hairballs.

Body: short, compact and solid. Same type as the British Shorthair.

Head: round and massive, full cheeks, strong chin.

Eyes: large and round. Colour related to the coat.

Ears: small to medium, well spaced, slightly rounded.

Tail: thick at the base, well furnished, medium length.

Coat: semi-long to long, dense, with abundant undercoat. A mane is desirable.

Colour: all colours and patterns recognised for the British Shorthair are accepted.
