Origin
The Burmilla came about by accident in 1981 in the United Kingdom. A lilac Burmese female and a male Chinchilla Persian were living in the same house. Before their planned separation occurred, they had a litter together. The four resulting kittens were so beautiful that the breeder continued working with this combination, giving rise to the Burmilla.

Character
The Burmilla combines the best qualities of the Burmese and the Chinchilla. Social, affectionate and playful like the Burmese, with the calm and gentleness of the Chinchilla.

Care
The short to semi-long coat is relatively easy to maintain. Weekly brushing suffices outside moulting periods.

Body: medium-sized, muscular, compact but elegant.

Head: moderately rounded with a slightly curved profile.

Eyes: large, oblique, gentle expression. Green colour preferred.

Ears: medium to large, well spaced.

Coat: short to semi-long, fine and silky with a sparse undercoat.

Colour: silver shaded or tipped in all the Burmese base colours.
