Origin
The Chartreux is a blue, short-haired cat of robust type. It is certain that blue cats were mentioned in France in the 16th century. Legend has it that Carthusian monks raised these cats in their monastery. The two World Wars endangered the breed. After the war, crossings with blue Persians and blue British Shorthairs were made to re-establish the breed.

Character
The Chartreux is a calm, affectionate and adaptable cat. Gentle and balanced, not very talkative, it bonds with the whole family.

Care
The dense, soft coat requires regular care. Weekly brushing is generally sufficient.

Body: robust, massive and muscular, cobby type. Wide and deep chest.

Head: broad and rounded, full cheeks, slightly flat forehead, strong chin.

Eyes: large and round, gold to copper colour.

Ears: medium-sized, set high on the head, slightly rounded.

Tail: medium length, thick at the base.

Coat: short, very dense, slightly woolly, with abundant undercoat.

Colour: blue-grey only, in all shades. Nose leather slate, paw pads pink-lilac.
