Origin
In the 1950s, a curly-coated kitten was born in a litter of farm cats in Cornwall, England. The suffix "Rex" came from a rabbit breed with a similar curly coat. Geneticists discovered that the mutation was recessive. Subsequent crossings with Siamese and Orientals broadened the genetic base.

Character
The Cornish Rex is a very active, playful and intelligent cat. It remains lively and mischievous even in adulthood. Very affectionate, it loves warmth and cuddling with its owner.

Care
The short, curly coat requires little maintenance. Gentle regular brushing suffices.

Body: medium length, slender and muscular, semi-foreign type. Characteristic arched back.

Head: small, egg-shaped, longer than wide.

Eyes: medium to large, oval. Colour related to coat.

Ears: large, set high on the head, wide at the base.

Tail: long and thin.

Coat: short, curly or wavy, very soft. Only undercoat, no guard hairs.

Colour: all colours and patterns accepted.
