Egyptian Mau

Origin
The Egyptian Mau traces its origins to ancient Egypt where it was worshipped. "Mau" is the Egyptian word for "cat". It is the only naturally spotted domestic breed. Nearly extinct in the 20th century, it was saved by Princess Nathalie Troubetskoy in the 1950s.

Character
Active, intelligent and very fast (up to 48 km/h). Affectionate with its family, reserved with strangers. Strong hunting instincts.

Care
Short coat easy to maintain; weekly brushing suffices.

Body: medium length, muscular and elegant. Hind legs slightly longer.
Head: slightly rounded wedge, slightly domed forehead.
Eyes: large, almond-shaped. Gooseberry green.
Ears: medium to large, slightly pointed.
Tail: medium length, slightly thickening towards the base.
Coat: short, silky and lustrous. Distinct natural spots.
Colour: silver, bronze or smoke spotted, always naturally spotted.
