Origin
The French vice-consul in Luang-Prabang and his friend Major Russel Gordon brought news to Europe of a blue-eyed, ivory-coloured cat with a golden sheen and snow-white paws. These cats were the talismans of Kittah priests in a Burmese temple. The pregnant female Sita gave birth to the first French Sacred Birmans. The breed was recognised in France in 1925.

Character
The Sacred Birman is a calm, affectionate and sociable cat. It loves company and does not cope well with loneliness. Gentle with children and other animals.

Care
The semi-long coat is relatively easy to maintain as the undercoat is not very dense. Brushing twice a week is sufficient.

Body: robust and elongated, well muscled. Short and solid legs.

Head: broad and rounded, slightly convex forehead, full cheeks.

Eyes: round, deep blue colour.

Ears: medium-sized, wide at the base.

Tail: medium length, well furnished.

Coat: semi-long, silky and slightly wavy. Undercoat not very dense.

Colour: colourpoint in seal, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream. Distinctive feature: all four paws have perfectly symmetrical white gloves.
