Origin
The Kurilian Bobtail originates from the Kuril Islands in far-east Russia. The short tail is caused by a dominant gene (unlike the Japanese Bobtail). Exists in both shorthair and longhair versions.

Character
Robust, intelligent and playful. Strong hunting instincts but gentle, affectionate and good with children and other animals.

Body: semi-cobby, compact, very muscular. Hind legs slightly longer.
Head: broad and rounded, trapezoidal from the front.
Eyes: large, oval to round. All colours.
Ears: medium, well spaced, slightly rounded.
Tail: short, 3–8 cm, pom-pom with kinks or curls.
Coat: short or semi-long, silky, little undercoat.
Colour: all colours except colourpoint.
