Maine Coon

Origin
The name Maine Coon derives from the state of Maine, USA. "Coon" refers to the raccoon, for the bushy tail. One of the largest domestic breeds, worldwide popularity since the 1980s.

Character
Gentle, playful and sociable — often described as a "dog in a cat's body". Excellent with children and other animals. Known for its soft voice and chirping.

Care
Brush two to three times a week, especially behind the ears and under the armpits.

Body: large to very large, muscular. Full development takes 3–5 years.
Head: slightly longer than wide, square muzzle.
Eyes: large, slightly oblique. All colours.
Ears: large, well spaced, with tufts (lynx tips).
Tail: long and very full, broad at the base.
Coat: semi-long, silky, with undercoat. Shorter on the shoulders.
Colour: all colours except colourpoint and chocolate/lilac.
