Origin
The origins of longhaired cats lie in southern Russia, Turkey and Iran. Traders brought them to Norway. The breed developed in Scandinavian forests and farms for centuries. Nearly lost in WWII, saved by dedicated breeders. Recognised by FIFe in 1977.

Character
Robust, active and independent. Loves climbing and exploring. Affectionate without being clingy. Gets along well with children and other animals.

Care
Coat is not cottony and rarely tangles. Weekly brushing suffices.

Body: large, muscular and solid. Hind legs slightly longer.
Head: triangular, straight line from forehead to nose tip.
Eyes: large, almond-shaped, slightly oblique. All colours.
Ears: medium to large, wide at the base, with tufts.
Tail: long and full, carried high.
Coat: double, waterproof guard coat and dense undercoat.
Colour: all except chocolate, lilac, cinnamon, fawn and their dilutions.
