Origin
The Persian is one of the oldest and best-known breeds. Longhaired cats were imported from Persia to Europe in the 17th century. Through selective breeding the type became stockier with an increasingly flat face. The Persian is today the most popular breed in the world.

Character
Calm, gentle and affectionate. Enjoys a quiet life. Well suited to apartment living.

Care
The long dense coat requires daily brushing. Regular cleaning of the eyes and face.

Body: cobby, massive and muscular, broad and solid bone structure.
Head: round and broad, very flat face, short broad nose, full cheeks.
Eyes: large, round and well spaced. All colours in harmony.
Ears: small, rounded, well spaced.
Tail: short, thick and full.
Coat: long, dense and shiny, abundant undercoat.
Colour: all colours and patterns (except colourpoint).
