Origin
The Savannah arose from a cross between a domestic cat and an African Serval (Leptailurus serval). The first Savannah was produced in 1986 by Judee Frank. The breed is characterised by its large size and wild appearance. Depending on generation (F1–F6), size and temperament vary considerably.

Character
Very active, curious and loyal to its owner. Early generations (F1–F3) are more challenging to manage. Later generations are more domestic. The Savannah loves water, play and can retrieve objects.

Care
Short coat easy to maintain. Weekly brushing suffices. Needs a lot of space and activity.

Body: large, slender and athletic. Long legs. Early generations very large.
Head: small in relation to the body, wedge-shaped, very high-set ears.
Eyes: almond-shaped, slightly hooded. All colours.
Ears: very large, wide at the base, upright, with ocelli markings on the back.
Tail: medium to long, slightly thick.
Coat: short, thick and spotted.
Colour: brown spotted tabby, silver spotted tabby, black and black smoke.
