Turkish Van
Origin
The Turkish Van is an ancient breed from the Lake Van region of Turkey. Known for their love of water and ability to swim, they were introduced to the West in the 1950s. The Van pattern — white body with colour only on head and tail — takes its name from this breed.
Character
Active, playful and very curious. Loves water. Affectionate but independent.
Body: medium to large, muscular and solid.
Head: slightly rounded wedge, strong chin.
Eyes: large, oval. Amber, blue or odd-eyed.
Ears: medium, well spaced, slightly rounded.
Tail: medium length, full like a plume.
Coat: semi-long, silky, no undercoat. Changes with the seasons.
Colour: white body with colour patches on head and tail (Van pattern). All colours accepted.
