Cats are great company at home and you can play and cuddle with them. Cats do not need to be walked, but do require time and attention for their care. Research what you expect from a cat and choose a kitten of the breed that best suits your lifestyle. A cat is part of your life for 15 to 20 years.

More than 50 cat breeds

There are more than 50 cat breeds. They differ in size, appearance and behaviour. Breeds also differ in character. Siamese cats, for example, are known for their social character and the lively sounds they make. If you are more of a calm type, a quiet Persian may appeal to you more.

Cat shows

If you want to participate in cat shows, ask the breeder for a kitten of "show quality". This kitten perfectly meets the breed standards. Logically, you pay more for this specimen. Within a litter, the quality of kittens can vary. In addition to "show quality" there are kittens of "breeding quality" and "pet quality".

Living space

Your living situation matters when choosing your cat. A cat also has her own wishes to be happy. Some cats are very active and need a lot of space. Other cats need less exercise and are fine in a cosy apartment.

Time for care

At first you need to spend a lot of time on the socialisation and upbringing of your kitten. Even when your cat is adult she needs attention and care. Brushing teeth, clipping nails, brushing are recurring tasks. Long-haired cats need more coat care than short-haired ones.
