Healthy nutrition - BCF VZW

What is healthy nutrition for my cat?

Healthy nutrition is important for your cat. It provides all the necessary nutrients and keeps her in good health.

What makes good cat food?

Good cat food takes into account the natural nutritional needs of your cat and is easily digestible. Cats naturally eat mainly muscle meat, from which they extract the necessary proteins. Furthermore, good cat food contains:

  • few plant-based ingredients
  • a consistent nutrient composition
  • a low salt content

Good cat food is also easily digestible. When you give your cat high-quality nutrition, you will notice it immediately. She is lively, has firm stools and her coat shines.

How do I choose the right food for my cat?

A complete cat food contains all the necessary components. Whether you choose dry food or wet food depends on your preference and that of your cat.

Dry food contains little moisture, so it spoils less quickly. You can therefore leave a bowl of dry food out all day so the cat can eat throughout the day. Furthermore, dry food is better for teeth than wet food. By chewing well, your cat combats the formation of plaque.

Wet food contains a lot of moisture, which means it spoils more quickly and is not suitable to be left out for long. However, wet food smells more attractive and many cats find it particularly tasty. Wet food does not help against the formation of plaque. If you choose this food, ensure extra good dental care or combine with dry food.

How often and how much should my cat eat?

A cat is best fed several small meals per day. Some cats have difficulty leaving a half-full bowl of kibble. This is not good for your cat's weight. Feed such cats three to four times a day. How much food your companion needs daily depends on its weight, age and the exercise it gets. A guideline for the right amount can be found on the cat food packaging.
