Why give your cat snacks?
Your cat is crazy about snacks. Give them especially when you want to teach your cat something new. But snacks also have another function: dental cleaning. Dental care snacks make her chew more and her teeth will become cleaner.
What snacks are there for my cat?
There are many different types of snacks for cats. Which snacks you give your pet depends partly on its life stage. If you have a kitten, preferably buy snacks specially for young cats. These support growth. Cats are often very fussy about their food. Test the different types of snacks to find out what your cat likes best.
What about snacks and my cat's allergies?
Cat snacks come in all sorts of shapes, colours and flavours. The more the ingredients match those in your cat's food, the better. If your cat has a food allergy, buy cat treats with nutrients that it tolerates well. In the extensive range, including 100% natural snacks, you will always find something tasty your cat will enjoy. Ask a store assistant for advice if you are unsure whether a particular snack fits into its diet.
When should I give my cat snacks?
Reward your pet's good behaviour with a snack and occasionally put some treats in a Kong: a toy your cat has to get them out of by itself. This is great occupational therapy. Tip: Want to teach your cat tricks? Have your cat perform an action first before giving it a snack, for example sitting, lying down or coming to you.
Snacks and the effect on the daily amount of cat food
Give your cat snacks in moderation. This way she can enjoy her reward without getting fat. Do not deduct the extras from her regular food. The regular food contains all sorts of important nutrients that she absolutely must receive. Weigh your cat regularly. Is she getting too heavy without a medical reason? Then reduce the number of snacks or give a cat kibble as a reward. In that case, deduct the number of kibbles given from your cat's next meal.
Can a cat drink milk?
Cat milk is special milk with extra vitamins for your kitten. It also contains much less lactose than regular cow's milk. Do not give cow's milk, as it is hard to digest and not tailored to a cat's nutritional needs. Cat milk is a healthy extra, not a complete food. Give your kitten some cat milk occasionally as a treat alongside normal food.
